            Theme Analysis.

Isabel Allende is known for creating novels that mix together historical information and family drama with an inspirational kind of fantasy. Her books like ¨The House of the Spirits¨, ¨The Stories of ¨Eva Luna¨, ¨Aphrodite¨, ¨Daughter of Fortune¨, and many more, are known to be exquisitely fantastical and pleasant to the eager eyes of the reader. But all of her books have something in common, and that is the theme of magic, spirituality and political issues.

To begin, most of Allende’s books contain a touch of magic and fantasy which truly give her that stereotype of giving her novels a mystical and supernatural effect. Like in ¨The House of the Spirits¨, where Clara has clairvoyant power, and can also see ghosts, which brings the novel that touch Allende gives to all of her novels, that delightful and enjoyable touch that illustrate the issues that there could be in a family and the politics that interfere with it.

Allende wrote ¨The House of the Spirits¨ when she found out that her grandfather was dying. She wrote a letter to him, which eventually became one of her best selling books, ¨The House of the Spirits. That is what she incorporates in all of her novels, reality yet a reality that is connected to magic and paranormal.

Furthermore, Allende’s novel ¨Daughter of Fortune¨, another novel that involves family traditions and social mores, it also contains her touch of magic and has memories, dreams and fears, just like ¨The House of the Spirits¨ where she expresses her true feelings. A letter that was directed to her grandfather, was converted into a book of magical events, also, ¨Daughter of Fortune¨ contains prostitution, thieves, bandits, and the reality that can be lived, which is presented in all of her books.

Moreover, another of Allende’s books that contains her magical realism is ¨Aphrodite, a memoir of the senses¨ This book is a memoir of return to life, and she wrote this book after her daughter Paula died. Also, this book is like a mixture of Allende’s dreamy, gastronomic and passionate recalls, which is what appears in all of her books. She includes all her magical reality and sometimes she even incorporates things such as gastronomy to give the novel a flavor that the reader can enjoy the taste in their mouth.

Thus, Isabel Allende’s general themes are magical realism, politics and sometimes memoirs that are still in her mind, like the day her daughter died, or the day she wrote the letter to her grandfather, which later became the book ¨The House of the Spirits¨. Her themes will always leave an enjoyable feeling and also a feeling of satisfaction after the book is read.
